I spent more than 20 years away from South Dakota. When I moved back to Sioux Falls, I was honestly blown away by how many places there were to eat, drink, and spend an evening. The city had grown up while I was gone.
Fast forward three years and countless meals later, and I’ve started to notice a pattern. A lot of the food feels strangely familiar, customer service sometimes seems to be on an extended vacation, and more than a few bartenders and servers have mastered the art of looking mildly inconvenienced by the existence of customers.
But before everyone grabs their pitchforks, there’s another possibility: maybe I’m wrong.
Maybe I’ve been spoiled by years of traveling for work and experiencing restaurants in Texas, North Carolina, California, and other places where hospitality is treated like a competitive sport. Or maybe I’m just getting older, grumpier, and dangerously close to yelling at clouds.
So rather than complain from the sidelines, I’ve decided to put my theory to the test.
That’s why I created this website.
Over the coming months, I’ll be revisiting Sioux Falls restaurants, bars, breweries, and nightlife spots with an open mind, an empty stomach, and probably a healthy amount of skepticism. I’ll compare my experiences with public reviews and local opinions to create a ranking system that feels fair and honest.
The formula will be something like:
• 50% Public Review Data
• 25% Local User Votes
• 25% My Own Experience
Will I discover that Sioux Falls has an incredible food and nightlife scene that I’ve unfairly judged?
Will I confirm my suspicions that too many places are serving the same burger with a different logo on the menu?
There’s only one way to find out.
So grab a drink, pull up a chair, and follow along as we eat, drink, and occasionally complain our way through everything Sioux Falls has to offer.
